Appleworks
Presentation
“The
Basics”
1. Open Appleworks and click on the
“Presentation” icon, which is on the far right of the “Starting Points”
dialog box.
This will open up to a blank slide
and some floating
toolbars or palettes
§
the
“tools” palette on the left of the screen
§
the
“presentation controls” palette on the right
§
sometimes
the “button bar” at the top of screen
2. Go to the word “Window”
at the top of your screen
to see that you can show or hide these “floating palettes”.
3. You should now “save as” this
blank presentation
and create a “new folder” to
store it in (any future
pictures you might add to your presentation must be stored here as well).
§
Appleworks
has a glitch and will shut down occasionally
§
Remember
to save frequently.
§
Saving
after each major change that you do to your presentation is a great idea.
1. Now you must decide if you want
to make a “master
slide” so that all slides have the
same features or if you’d
like to customize each one
individually. (This is similar to using
the “template” feature in PowerPoint).
If you like to use the “master
slide” feature choose the “star” tab at the bottom of the “controls”
toolbar and make your master slide here.
2. If you’d like to work on each
slide individually (and not
have a “master slide”, choose the
small “slide” tab on the
“controls” toolbar and start working on your first slide.
3. Either way, you will make more slides by clicking on the
“+” sign or delete them by clicking
on the “-” sign in this “controls” toolbar as well.
1.To add a background in
Presentation, you need to use the
“rectangle tool” on the “tool”
palette.
2. Drag and draw a rectangle across
the entire slide and then choose a fill color, pattern or texture.
1. To add text, click on the blue
“A” icon on the “tools” palette, then click on the screen where you want your
text and begin typing.
2. You can modify the text size,
font, or color by
highlighting the text and then
clicking on Text at the top of your screen.
3.Here you can select Font, Size,
Style and Text Color.
1. To insert a “clipping” (another
name for clip art in
Appleworks), go to File then to
“Show Clippings”.
Your clippings palette will open
and you can now choose from what is available already within Appleworks , or
search the web for more Appleworks clippings by using the search feature.
2. To add a clipping to your
presentation, either double click
on it or drag and drop it onto your
slide.
3. If you click on the “+” tab in
this Clippings window you can create your own tab and store your personal
“clippings” here for easy access from all of your Appleworks applications.
1. It’s a good idea to name your
slides early so that if you
choose to rearrange them, you know
which slide has what
content on it.
2. To name your slides, click on
the word “untitled” on the
miniature slide in the “controls”
palette and type your title.
3. To reorder your slide show, just
drag and drop the slides within this same “controls” palette.

Appleworks Presentation
1. You can also get graphics from
the Internet. It’s a good
idea to save the pictures you use
from outside Appleworks
into a folder with your
presentation just in case Presentation crashes and these pictures disappear.
2. Click on the picture and hold
the button down to save the
image file to a disk. The option
says “Download image to
Disk.” If you select this option,
you can save the image file
to your disk and then insert it
later.
3. When you hold the mouse button
down on an image in
Netscape, the best option is “Copy
Image As” which is the
same as “Download Image to Disk” in
Internet Explorer. So
you can copy the image on your hard
drive and insert it later.
(from the Internet, World Book, or
Digital Camera)
1. To insert a picture, click on
File (from the top menu bar)
and then click on Insert.
2. A box will come up with a list
of files on your computer
and desktop. Under File Format,
click on that box and then
select All Available, instead of
just AppleWorks. This is so
that you will be shown all files.
You want to find a graphic
file.
3. You will next need to locate the
graphic file that you wish
to insert. You should have the
graphic file saved in your
presentation folder already
4. After you locate it, click on
Insert.
5. You can move the picture by
clicking on it and holding
down the mouse button until you get
it where you want it
and then let go of the mouse
button. You can resize the
picture by clicking on the little
square at the very corner of
the graphic, hold the mouse button
down, and move your
mouse in or out to make it smaller
or larger.
1. Click on the text that you want
to be a link to a web site.
2. Click on the icon at the top of
the screen for making a
hyperlink. It looks like a piece of
chain and a globe.
3. Type the URL (web address) into the box that appears then click OK.
