Welcome to the Human Resources Department of Portland Public Schools, one of Portland’s largest employers.
Public Schools has nearly 1,300 employees, including approximately 700
teachers. We have one of the most diverse student populations in
the state of Maine, with approximately 60 languages spoken in our 17 schools. We also have a district-wide program, Bayside Learning Community, that provides additional support for students receiving special education services in grades K-12, with the goal of transitioning them back to their neighborhood home schools. Meanwhile, our adult education program serves 4,500 lifelong learners annually, including 2,000 English language learners from 81 countries.
Human Resources is responsible for supporting all of the
district’s employment needs, including hiring new employees, managing benefits and leaves of absence, and administering the district's four collective bargaining agreements. Our team works to ensure that educators and support staff can devote their full attention to achieving the district's mission of educational excellence for all students in a
safe and nurturing environment.
