The Summer Success Picnic, an event in Deering Oaks Park being held to celebrate Portland’s free summer meals program for kids and summer learning, has been rescheduled to Friday, July 14, because of rain in the forecast for the original date of July 13. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students Invited to Join Middle School Preparatory Orchestra

Julianne Eberl, orchestra director for King, Lincoln and Lyman Moore middle schools, is introducing the Portland Public Schools’ Middle School Preparatory Orchestra, with rehearsals starting in August. “This program is free and open to all Portland Public Schools’ current fourth- and fifth-grade string students who are going into fifth- and sixth-grade this September,” Eberl said.
