Ocean Avenue Elementary School (OAES) has been named an authorized IB World School, Primary Years Programme. In 2016, the Portland Education Foundation (PEF) is marking eight years of investing directly at the point of teaching and learning. In addition to general funds raised by the foundation to support teacher grants, PEF has secured $20,000 from L.L. Bean to launch the L.L. The Portland Board of Public Education voted Aug. 16 to approve a resolution to create a Parent Partnership Policy Ad Hoc Committee. The new committee will review and revise the district’s current Parent Involvement Policy, using the Parent & Family Engagement Manifesto as a guide. The first day of school for Portland Public Schools’ students in grades 1-12 is Tuesday, Aug. 31, this year. Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten children start on Tuesday, Sept. 6, the day after Labor Day. The second annual Side x Side Summer Arts Institute 2016 took place June 22-23 at the Portland Museum of art. This institute was for all participating Side x Side classroom teachers and served as a dedicated time to meet with Side x Side teaching artists to further plan and develop implementation of Side x Side programs in the classroom.
